Our Long Haul Flight Essentials

Surviving those long flights can be bit of a challenge sometime. But with the right items it can become bearable.

Neither of us enjoy sitting in a small, crammed chair for a long period of time. Especially Michael who is 189cm (6 foot 2). We try and get him the aisle seat so he can stretch his legs out occasionally – and hopefully not get hit by the hostess pushing the cart down the aisles.

So that brings us to our first long haul essential...

1. Aisle seat - We usually pay the fee to pick where we sit, and to ensure Michael is comfortable –ish in the aisle seat.

2. Headphones – Can’t go past a good set of head phones. We both have over ear head phones for flying. Michael was smart and got noise cancelling, unfortunately mine aren’t and if there is a crying baby or people talking loud, it isn’t blocked out. So get noise cancelling ones!!

3. Water bottle – Seems simple, but if it’s forgotten it will be missed. We hate inconveniencing the flight attendants for water every hour or so, so if you take a bottle they can fill it for you once.

4. Eye mask – We love this for that moment they put the cabin lights on for food and we aren’t hungry. We can just keep sleeping the flight away uninterrupted.

5. Power bank/cables – Make sure it is fully charged and this will be your best friend on a long flight. These two items will help if you like to watch pre downloaded shows on your phone. But check prior with your airline as some don't allow the use of power banks. Which leads to the next essential thing…

6. Netflix/pre-downloaded videos – Yes, most long haul flights have the inflight entertainment, but sometimes not you favourite series, or YouTube videos.

We would love to hear what some of you travel essential are. So send us an email and let us know.
